Review Wobble: A True Taste of Wales - Afternoon Tea at Future Inn Cardiff

Did you say sandwiches and cakes, with a Welsh theme? Yes please!

On Thursday 10th January, I attended a bloggers event at Future Inns in Cardiff Bay which re-launched their afternoon tea offering.  When it comes to indulging on a finger sandwich and scone you are quite literally spoilt for choice in Cardiff.

What is most impressive about the Taste of Wales Afternoon Tea, apart from the price, was that it is homemade.  You always know when cakes have been bought in, or added too, cut up, etc so it makes such a difference when they are made from scratch and only have to travel a few metres from the kitchen to your table.

So, I mentioned the price… only £12 per person!  You could be worried that for the price the quality would not be there, but this is certainly not the case.  The selection of sandwiches included locally sourced ham and wholegrain mustard, Caerphilly cheese and red onion chutney and smoked salmon with crème fraiche and more.  As well as the handmade scones, there was bara brith and a selection of delicious cakes.  Even cute hand piped unicorn coloured meringues and macaroons.  There was even a gluten free and vegan options for some of the other guests.

All of this was washed down with a proper Welsh brew loose leaf tea, or a coffee if you prefer.  I of course was more interested in the sparkling aspect of the dining experience.  A glass of bubbles can be added on for £3.50 per person.  Or perhaps a bottle of prosecco, champagne or even cocktails.

The food is served in Thomas Restaurant at Future Inn Cardiff, which is bright, modern and welcoming.  The Taste of Wales afternoon tea is served daily between 1pm-5pm.  Pre-booking is essential on 02920 487111, emailing thomas@futureinns.co.uk or on their website.

I would highly recommend the afternoon tea, the team are friendly and approachable too which always helps.  It is an ideal place to visit with friends for an afternoon out, treating mum or gran, or even to celebrate a birthday or baby shower.  If you are really full afterwards, you can even walk it off going through Cardiff Bay and over the barrage!

Who else attended the event?

As well as being a bit of a bloggers reunion, the event was attended by some great local Welsh businesses.  It was great to see Shoned from Tanya Whitebits again, who I met at a Bloggers Meets Brands event last year.  If you do not know yet, it is the only Welsh tan company, which prides itself on a fast drying, quality, non sticky and most importantly an odour free formula.  It even works on an 'albino' like myself - I just wish I was not so lazy to put it on!

It was also interesting to meet Laura from Make It Pop, who help you wave goodbye to disposable party tableware and use eco-friendly party supplies instead, which can be bought or hired.  The collection is fun, funky and functional and can be incorporated for lots of different themes. It is especially ideal for children's birthday parties.

Also in attendance were Carly from Anaphase Store, an online store based in Cardiff that sells clothing, footwear, homeware, cosmetics and accessories.  We were given gorgeous bath bombs to take home, it smells divine so I am very excited for a relaxing evening in.  It might be a good way to sooth the skin after a treatment at Madame Wax.  Adele from the Cardiff City Centre based salon explained that their 30 minute treatments are not rushed, and it is plenty of time to ensure that every rogue hair is long gone.  They use quality hot wax and the team are well skilled to make it pain free (as possible).

I also got to meet Luna from Luna Amani Cardiff's own luxury handbag brand.  The funky styles are always a hit, making a statement whilst being practical.  I have my eyes on one, so the boyfriend will be getting a few not so subtle hints over the next few weeks.

Amazingly I also got to catch up with Jordy from Ultra Sculpt.  Having been introduced to her last year, I have had my lips enhanced without having needles in my face Get Kardashian lips without the needles! and I have recently had additional treatments done on my jowly chin and eye bags - watch this space for more information...
