So in an effort to trim down before my holiday at the end of
the month, I have joined not one but two challenges. One to look after my nutrition and weight
loss and the other to push my fitness goals.
Late on the 31st May, I spotted the sponsored
advert for Run At Your Pace virtual challenge.
It turns out that each month you can make a pledge to do 25, 50, 75,
100, 125, 150 or 200 miles. When
registering you select your distance and pay an entry fee; £10 for the medal
only or £14 to include a t-shirt.
To get the medal at the end of the month, you need to prove
that you have done the miles. This is
easy to do if you have a FitBit (which is my favourite gadget), or similar
recording devices like a Garmin or running apps like Strava. They also accept spreadsheets if you do your
running on a treadmill. At the end of
the month all of your runs will need to be uploaded, as your evidence, to prove
that you have completed the challenge.
Being a newbie to running, I selected 25 miles. I have only just completed week 2 of my 5k
training app Zombies 5km, which is so much more engaging than your typical Couch
to 5km. I have tried so many times
before but quickly get bored, but I am hooked at the moment. You are a trainee runner who will need to
leave the safety of the compound to go on missions. It also includes exercises to boost your
training such as heel lifts and knee raises, which keep things
interesting. Plus it is a free
download on itunes.
I have also joined a Herbalife 21 Day Challenge, where I
replace my breakfast with a shake. You
are also encouraged to have an additional 4 small healthy meals or snacks
throughout the day, 3 litres of water and at least 15 minutes exercise. The healthy meals could include homemade
bolognaise, frittata and salad and snacks like carrot sticks and houmous. There is also a tea to help boost your energy
and metabolism.
Everyone in the challenge has paid £5. I had to provide my measurements to the
organiser, and at the end of the 21 days will do so again. The person who has lost the most inches will
win the prize pot.
Meal replacements can get a bad reputation, but I am not
really sure why. They are there to
support weight loss and weight maintenance through portion control and
providing the nutrients our body would need per meal. The Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 Shake is
rich in protein, which supports the maintenance and growth of muscle mass, and
it is also fortified with vitamins and minerals. All you need to do is add water, semi or skimmed
milk, or even almond milk or coconut water.
You can even wiz it up in a bullet with some frozen fruit. It comes in a variety of different flavours,
but I have chosen the vanilla.
Herbalife offer a trial pack for £8.60 including VAT which
comes in a zip lock bag and includes 3 x vanilla, 3 x cookies and cream, and 2
sachets of the tea Thermal Beverage. You
can also buy a starter kit for £6.78 including VAT, which has a large shaker
bottle, fabric tape measure, measuring spoon and small tablet box (for
multivitamins).
I have got a very busy month of events; heading to the FAW
Ladies V Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday, Stereophonics on Saturday, and towards
the end of the month Ascot at Bryn Meadows, Ed Sheeran at the Millennium
Stadium (sorry but I refuse to call it the Principality) and the Killers at
Singleton Park in Swansea. So I will
need the motivation in between to stay on track. Let’s run so miles and lose some inches!
