Tramshed is the newest live music venue in Cardiff, which
can host up to 1,000 attendees. It is a
10 minute walk from Cardiff Central Station or the Bierkeller building in
Grangetown. It is a Grade II listed, beautiful
red bricked building, that used to be the tram depot and later the trolley
buses in the 1900’s.
The Grangetown Tram Depot was one of six throughout Cardiff,
and closed in 1953. In later years it
became maintenance workshops for Cardiff Council’s vehicles. However in 1997 it was given a listed accreditation
as a ‘rare surviving large building from a major tramway system’.

I had heard of the venue, as it has become increasingly
popular over the last few years, giving the Cardiff University Students’ Union
a run for its money. A sponsored post on
facebook highlighted the Ultimate Pop Reunion with 5ive and S Club event to
me. Being a teenager at the end of the
90’s early 00’s the bands were heavy played at school discos, youth club and on
my Walkman.

At £28.86 a ticket, it was a reasonable
night out with the girls. 5ive’s line up
were with original members Ritchie, Scott and Sean. S Club consisted of Jo, Bradley and Tina. The room was stifling, full of sweaty 30 plus
year olds dancing to pop classics played by a DJ between the sets. I do not think establishments still go down
the route of not putting air conditioning on to make guests buy more drinks. If this was the case they would have put more
staff on the bar – there were only 4 for the large room.
S Club (l-r) Bradley, Tina and Jo
5ive were easily the best performers on the night, they
really entertained the crowd, and kept the energy high. I was a little disappointed by S Club… they
were unable to keep the crowd as engaged and when they finished their set and
the lights came up, I was left wanting more – from the first act. Overall, it was an entertaining night out and
looking forward to visiting Tramshed again later in the year.
